Galder Zamarreno, Radim Vansa - it's been decided to port this work back to 5.3 after all to properly fix the problem. The trouble with that is that I actually already released a first CR for 5.3 meaning we are very close to t going final.

IIUC Radim Vansa already implemented these changes on 6.0, so it should not be a huge effort, but I wanted to reach out and see if there is anything I can do to make that easier for y'all to do for 5.3 support
