This database is used by a large legacy ERP and the version of the allowed SQL server is hardcoded in that legacy software. So we have to stick with this crappy DB until the legacy software is replaced - which is what we are trying to do incrementally.

So yeah, it is not exactly my dream environment. However, since spring will drop support for hibernate 4 soon, we need a migration path so we can use hibernate 5.
