Out of curiosity is this how you work around MySQL's silly problem with build-deleting self-referential associations?

Either way, I again think this is not a bug. So I will classify this as a feature/enhancement request. And one I am not likely to implement myself. I'll leave open for a bit to see if someone is willing to create a patch/PR to add such support.
