I know some downstream projects could benefit from such a change, for instance to provide annotation-mapped abstract entities in on of their core modules but only provide Hibernate Search support in a separate, optional module.

I mention that because, if we have to rename/remove annotations in Hibernate Search 6.0, this might be just the right time for such a change.
