Just to clarify since someone just asked me about this. References above to "Hibernate 4" are out of date. Really what was meant was the move to the mapping metamodel code. That work will become Hibernate 5. It is currently being developed on the metamodel branch out on GitHub (https://github.com/hibernate/hibernate-orm/tree/metamodel).
Note that ultimately that metamodel branch will go away after we merge that work back on to master; think of it as a published topic branch.
