IMO both of you are right

Long term we definitely want to get away from spatial-specific Dialects. But doing that as suggested (folding that functionality into the ORM dialects) is improper for the reasons you state Chris Cranford. We'd have to sit down with Karel Maesen and spec out a proper way to achieve this and determine a timeframe.

But for sure this will not happen specifically as you suggest Alfred Staflinger.
