I'm very skeptical about that.
The loopback device is pretty much the only interface providing a generally acknowledged agreed-on standard configuration, you have no idea how a different interface might be configured. In many networks if you have a router which has a very basic smartness, it will refuse to send the multicast network back to your device.
Also, you'd be testing the reliability of whatever network that is; essentially the build would regularly fail when running in a coffeeshop, a conference, a sucky train wifi, etc.. not nice to depend on external environments in our tests :-/
