Below are the responses on your queries -
1.) A community need. Bluntly, will anyone use it? Any Hibernate users requesting it?

We do have requests from customers to support this. Our internal Management console team is also using a Hibernate competitor as well and they would like to start using hibernate in the future.

2.) Vertica's team & HP can commit to maintaining the dialect, long term.

We are committed for supporting the dialect LONG TERM. We have already put in a considerable amount of time on this and we have a robust junit test framework already built and will be running on a regular basis with our HP Vertica Ecosystem team.
