I updated the test case with the latest Hibernate 5 release (5.4.13.Final) and this bug is still happening.

I also added a hibernate-6 branch using the latest Hibernate 6 release (6.0.0.Alpha4) and the test case also fails but differently (with a StackOverflowError).
