During our team meeting today we decided to treat this as an improvement. There was a mention by Steve that there might be a section in the JPA spec about how orphans should be handled in such a scenario and that the current behavior could very well be the “correct” one.

Either way, we should look into this to confirm and also try to see if we can do something about this.
