Hmm, I am not sure about "broken" in this context. But yes, it might not be JGroup's responsibility to work around that.
Yes. Fingers crossed he might be able to improve JGroups on this. Worst case, I'm afraid we'll have to document the need as I see no alternative :-/
I think there is an alternative. AFAIU the problem is the loopback device. So we just make to bind to another IP. Pull request in the making...
