For the third point, I think it would be a good idea in the case of a new method added for a new feature. We could raise an exception for example.
But if we add methods to cope with existing feature it becomes more problematic.
Note that we can consider the provider SPIs as beta and ask people to talk to us. It's not unreasonable.
