In Brno we discussed for AS.next that as much as possible should be a subsystem.
That goes directly in line of what you are suggesting.

But said that, I think changes like this would really be postponed for AS.next, given that we want to do fast AS8 release...

subsystems?  Maybe the host controller could even just be a standalone
AS process running a minimal configuration.
