In my opinion, thе storeAsBinary doesn't becomes true because org.infinispan.configuration.parsing.Parser#parseNamedCache and then org.infinispan.configuration.parsing.Parser#parseCache methods don't read storeAsBinary element. So storeAsBinary leaves with a default (false) value.
