Maybe you can take a look at https://github.com/droolsjbpm/jbpm/blob/master/jbpm-flow-builder/src/main/java/org/jbpm/compiler/ProcessBuilderImpl.java to see how jBPM5 itself converts an xml into a binary representation of a process.
