What version of jgroups were you using before? I am guessing 2.6.X.(I think 2.6 is the version jboss-cache is compatible with). Also, have a look at infinispan (http://www.jboss.org/infinispan) as a jboss cache upgrade (you can also move to the latest jgroups version as well)
