With the Los Angeles Lakers having success against a tough Denver Nuggets team on February 3, I would think that they have set themselves up for success on their two-week long road trip. After having completed game one of six, the Lakers now look ahead as they finish their first of two back-to-backs on this road trip. The back-end will come in the form of the Utah Jazz on February 4, who just suffered a tumultuous back-to-back of their own.
On February 1, the Jazz suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers by a final score of 107-105. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin combined for 65 points and turned Salt Lake City into Lob City. Then on February 2, the Jazz traveled to Oakland to face the Golden State Warriors and got blown out 119-101. In that game, Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis combined for 62 points and they easily ran the floor late in the game.
Now, the Jazz are back at home and facing a Los Angeles Lakers team who has won three-straight games and is playing a much more confident style of basketball. Perhaps the Lakers will follow the recent trend against the Jazz and have Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum combine for a 60-plus-point performance.
Bryant and the Lakers succeeded in Denver by accomplishing their goal to rebound the basketball better and playing a tough, physical inside game - both on the offensive and defensive ends. The Lakers relied on Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum to get the job done inside. On the night, Gasol and Bynum combined for 34 points and 27 rebounds - not exactly monstrous numbers, but good enough to help out-rebound the Nuggets 48-40.
Now, the Lakers' big men will face a fromidable front-court in the form of Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson and I think that this will be a good litmus test for the Lakers. The Warriors were able to use Andris Biedrins and David Lee to beat the Jazz on the glass and the Lakers will use Bynum and Gasol to try and do what the Warriors did—giving the Lakers pretty good odds to dominate the boards in my estimation. A healthy Bynum has made all the difference in the world for the Lakers this year and I think that he is on his way to a very productive year.
I also think that the Lakers will catch the reeling Jazz on their heels and take advantage of it. I have the Lakers winning this contest by continuing to rebound and making sure the game stays physical in the paint. Besides, the Lakers have already beaten the Jazz twice so far this year, once in Utah by three points and once in Los Angeles by 25 points. So what do I do? I split the difference and have the Lakers winning by 14 points.
Prediction: Lakers 98 - Jazz 84

Growing up, Magic Johnson was his favorite basketball player and he fell in love with the team. He chalks it up to, "Not knowing any better".
