what michal minicki basically wanted to say is add the following: JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8" because obviously what he suggested was the MS-DOS way of solving this issue (but OP talked about Linux) just to make it clear thanks it helped @minicki
