You can start with something simple. Have you look through our web tooling? There is plenty of work to do on that front, and I can introduce you to those tools. 
Look to the web app provided with the jbpm installer to get familiar with. Get in touch with us when you know the basic of those tools (from the end user perspective). In order to collaborate with an open source project, first you need to be familiar with how to use it, so try it out and let us know how it goes.
