could this be the cause of the problems that arise when ending a process and jbpm is not
the one managing the transactions?

When trying to use CMT for jBPM and injecting JBoss' Hibernate Session into
jbpmContext, jBPM will earlier or later create a second (incomplete) Hibernate Session
Factory, for example when HibernateLongIdMatcher.matches() method calls
jbpmContext.getSessionFactory().
