I am not sure if I understand the description correctly? Does this mean there is already
an implementation to declare process variables but it needs to be extended so that you can
declare within a group activity definition? Thanks for any explainations.

add following element to process the group activity
<variable name="" [type=""] [history=""] />
type should refer to the types defined in jbpm.variable.types.xml
history = {enabled, disabled} (disabled is the default)
