Hi. What is the current status on this? Anybody did some work here already? Maybe I could
have a look at it but want to avoid duplicate work. And Fix Version 3.3 is too late I
think, so target release should be 3.3.1?
The proposed solutions is a good direction but still has some flaws (see forum entry), but
a working solutions in terms of classloading is vital, especially if you think about jBPM
ESB integration, scoping of deployments and so on...

After talking to Bernd, this is what we'll do:
1) loading of the configuration resource will be extended so that it also checks the
context classloader. now it only checks the SomeJbpmClass.class.getClassLoader()
2) currently, the jbpm process classloader is hard coded. a process class loader factory
will be made configurable. so that other people can overwrite the creation of the process
class loader. In the 5 locations where the process classloader is instantiated, this
configured process classloader factory will be used instead of the hard coded process
classloader.

So my solution is to introduce a special method "getJbpmConfigurationStream"
which is responsible especially for loading the jbpm.cfg.xml. It looks first in the
ClassLoaderUtil.class.getClassLoader (because this is the "old behavior") and if
there is nothing found in the Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader(). This method
is used by the JbpmConfiguration and the XmlUtil to load jbpm.cfg.xml. And in the
ObjectFactoryImpl I changed to lazy load the classloader, otherwise it is queried too
early (before the jbpm.cfg.xml is processed)...
Additionally the described patch is applied, but currently I am not sure if we still need
the customClassLoader configuration? Shouldn't all use cases be already solved by
using the context class loader and overwrite the ProcessClassLoader?
Third thing I did was to introduce a ProcessClassLoaderFactory which can be configured via
the jbpm.cfg.xml. So you can easily exchange the ProcessClassLoader to whatever you need
in your project.
The three new configuration parameters are:

understand each and everything there, would be nice if you, Tom, can have a look at it?
If it keeps like that I can also make a short note in the documentation about these
classloading configuration possibilities...

This was done and committed. If I remember it right, Tom wanted to close it, when he
reviewed it and the test suite works ;-) But it worked and it is already shipped with
