Karel, no problems with real browsers except that mobile IE might not support it. Can I use... only documents the deviceorientation event that is closely associated with the window.orientation. That's why I preferred using Modernizr.hasEvent('deviceOrientation'), but either is suitable.
I'll have to give this one final go with JBDS BrowserSim and iOS simulator though since I'm not sure if the underlying WebKit implementations will report if orientation is supported for simulators.
