Joshua Wilson is right in thinking that Paul Robinson and I originally wanted these fixes to support a university coursework we're designing, however we reverted to building a derivative of the contacts-mobile QS and side stepped any issues.

In general these changes (the corrected HTTP error codes specifically) would be a good idea long term IMO.
