There are issues about README.md files and pom.xml files about updating the Spring versions used in quickstarts:

But there is about to happen some modifications of *-with-spring BOM, see:

After this issue is done, examples silently starts to use Spring 3.2.7.RELEASE version. So make sure that the README.md files, description in pom.xml files and Spring versions in quickstarts will be consistent.

From my point of view both 3.2.7.RELEASE and 4.0.1.RELEASE of Spring are ok to use, except for the Spring RESTeasy example, which works with Spring 3.2.x version only, see:
