Do note that webexamples is more a POC currently than a good example. It has several todo's related to how it (ab)uses the HTTP SessionContext etc. Don't copy it blindly, there are definitely better approaches
One of the requirements of optaplanner-webexamples.war is that it runs on any servlet/JSP container (including WildFly, Jetty and Tomcat). Unfortunately, that means no CDI, which resulted in that messing around with HTTP's SessionContext etc. Upstream fixes to improve that situation are welcome too btw.
PS: in your implementation, you'll probably want to use CDI and other great JBoss technologies.
