I'm happy to point out that Mojarra has had this mechanism since May of
2006. Take a look at
<MOJARRA>/jsf-ri/src/com/sun/faces/spi/InjectionProvider.java.

Ah, that's right! I remember the announcement of that capability, but at the time I didn't have an application for it so it went out of my mind.
