RichFaces 5.0.0.Alpha4 roadmap

Hi Guys,
Pavol asked about a release date for RichFaces 5.0.0.Alpha4 at this
morning's meeting. Given the number of priorities we have to juggle it
is quite difficult to commit to a deadline for the Alpha release.
Rather we are committing to a fixed feature set for the release. We
will ship the release when the features are complete.
These features include:
* An updated editor component (Complete by Lukas Fryc)
* A new showcase (WIP by Lukas Macko)
* An updated DataTable (WIP by Brian Leathem)
* A re-written EPVC (Complete, waiting on a Mojarra release)
Some features that may or not make it depending on whether they are
ready in time:
* An updated select component
* An updated fileUpload component
Additionally a number of bug-fixes will likely land in the release.
I expect these features to be complete within a month, but we can't
commit to this with the number of conflicting priorities that come up.

Travis CI - stability?

Hey guys,
just a follow up on what we were discussing recently:
the CI jobs running on Travis CI are again failing,
https://travis-ci.org/richfaces/richfaces
now because of 50min limit after which the tests time outs.
Since our tests usually passed in 30min, I'm afraid this is not issue we
could influence much.
That returns us back to the CI and stability, we had problems with
CloudBees and we have problems with Travis CI now.
One solution is migrating tests to other machine altogether - Jenkins on
Openshift is one solution that comes to my mind.
Is it too drastic solution, should we rather "fix" Travis CI somethow?

Showcase ajax and taglibReader issue

Hey guys,
while working on new showcase, current stage can be seen here (https://github.com/richfaces/richfaces/tree/RF-12901-showcase/examples/bo...), I have come across these two issues, I was not able to solve by now
1. the components are not able to process ajax request
for instance list component, tooltip component
when I inspect the request in Chrome the response is {{code}}class java.lang.NullPointerException{{/code}}, there is no stacktrace on console
I think it is probably related to template used, because when I switch https://github.com/Lukindo/richfaces/blob/RF-12901-showcase/examples/boot...
to demo.xthml it works correctly.
2. when showcase is deployed to wildfly,
and component page is displayed, for instance http://localhost:8080/bootstrap-showcase/component/chart/index.jsf
taglibReader throws an exception
however, the showcase works ok on jboss 7.1.1

* get rid of the deprecated Beta APIs (PR sent, thanks Cody!)
* upgrade to 16.x
We could:
* get rid of APIs as we upgrade to newer Java
* get rid of APIs we do use sparely and for no reason (e.g. just once or
twice) (e.g. MapMaker)

Some of other APIs we use and are still @Beta in 16:
2x ByteStreams (@Beta, but Since Guava 1.0)
1x Files (@Beta, but Since Guava 1.0)
4x LoadingCache (@Beta, Since Guava 11.0)
The last one is the only which is potentially fragile (we already had to
refactor it once):

Support for Servlet 3.1

I am not sure at what point we plan to support Servlet 3.1, but its reference implementation Tomcat 8 is quite stable now (8.0.1 was released).
I have tried to deploy showcase on Tomcat 8, but following error is thrown during deployment:

I tried to change guava from the version 13 to the latest one: 16, but than another guava related error is thrown. Same with guava 15 as it is in WildFly. But it somehow does not relate to guava, as simple-app with guava 13 works fine on Tomcat 8. Metamer is suffering from the same issue.
Is there anything else I can do in this matter ? Can I file an issue to support Servlet 3.1 ?

Plan to remove JMS from Metamer

Hi,
similarly to Showcase, we would like to remove JMS from Metamer because it requires very complicated configuration in Metamer (it has to run on all containers) and it brings instability to our test suite.
1. I propose to move all tests testing r:push without JMS to framework tests.
2. Since we want to reuse as much existing code as possible, would it be possible to reuse push-demo or irc-client for testing r:push configured with JMS? Our requirement is that it has to be deployable to WildFly 8, EAP 6.2, Tomcat 7 (or 8). Ideally, it should run also on TomEE 1.6 and GlassFish 4.
