Is any one tried guvnor-5.5 in websphere application server?
What happen to the conponents.xml?
Why guvnor is tightly coupled with jbossAS even each version (jbossAS) got
separate war file?
this seems a big impediment for using guvnor as rule authoring tools.
Is one knows well aware these and already know how to deal this, please
advise me?

I find guvnor is a very good tool for rule development and deployment, we
should not restrict to one application server? this force the development
team to reject guvnor as rule authoring tool.

I cannot answer your first question as I have no experience of using Guvnor
on WebSphere.
However, please note being a JBoss Project we are likely to target our
"own" application servers; but that said we do have a WAR build specific
for Apache Tomcat too.
We'd love to accept Pull Requests from any community member who would like
to contribute builds for other application servers.
Should you require paid support for this open source project I am sure Red
Hat's Sales teams would love to hear from you.

Drools Expert is just a Java library and should work on WebSphere as well
as any other (to the best of my knowledge, but always happy to learn
something new!)
Guvnor is really the issue as we do not have an off the shelf distribution
targeting WAS (not that we wouldn't want to, but nobody in the community
has been prepared to work out what is required).
IDK if RedHat Consulting would be able to advise on setting up Guvnor on
WAS... but I'll forward this email to others who might know better.
RedHat's certified BRMS does not contain the most recent features.

I guess that most folks who are tied into the WebSphere stack probably just go with JRules
rather than Drools. Although FICO is also thoroughly usable in that stack.
I'd probably recommend using Drools Expert within your application on WAS, and stick
with running Guvnor on Tomcat, as it does't need to be part of a 'production'
installation.
However … is there much interest in getting Guvnor up and running on alternative app
servers such as WAS/WebLogic/Glassfish?
I intend to be unemployed for the next few weeks, and I was thinking of finding myself a
little OS project to work on. :)

Nothing wrong with the drools expert, the problem is guvnor....
this is because you are frequently changing the guvnor implementation and
architecture, from 5.0 to 5.3 guvnor used components.xml (seam config) for
repository and security configurations. Now 5.4 and 5.5 using beans.xml
(spring injection). Even though guvnor is used in development environment,
very high profile companies and projects this is big problem for upgrading
also developers complaints is very important to avoid guvnor as a rule
authoring tool or repository.
Nothing wrong you want to promote your product (JbossAS) using drools but
you may consider the other aspects also.
Documentation is very important...if you provide more info..this will avoid
these type of threads...

When we ran Seam in WAS it took a while to get it right, but it was totally

Sounds like a plan. I'll get stuck into it and write up the experiences. I suspect
that anybody who's conservative enough to be locked into WAS is probably not going to
be too keen to hit up 6.0 for a little while. So I'll have a go at 5.5 for now, as at
least I know the Tomcat build is pretty stable and should be a decent starting point. If I
have time I'll apply the same steps to 6.0 and see where they diverge (if at all).
Any big differences between 5.5 and 6.0 that you can think of off-hand, which are likely
to cause them to need different steps? I haven't had a look at the tech stack under
6.0 yet.
Now I'm going to have to brush off my WAS skills. My JEE bloatware app server
experience is mostly with WebLogic. :)

Hi Stephen,
Guvnor 6.0 uses GWT2.5, Errai 2.2, UberFire and Seam (3, I think, but
similarly to 5.5 for server-side CDI).
Errai needs the most care but they provide settings for a lot of the common
(open source) web-servers (not WebSphere).
We have assemblies for Jboss AS 7 and Tomcat 7... one might provide a good
starting point.
As with 5.5 most issues relate to the correct exclusion of libraries
bundled with the container.
Anything you might be able to do will be warmly appreciated.

I thought I had, although I gave up on it because of a number of bugs in Guvnor 5.5, which
I couldn't live with.
However, recent exchanges on this list have me second guessing myself, and I'm
wondering whether it was only 5.3 that I got working properly. I think I might have to try
again.

Basically, as long as I was using the WAS 8.5 Liberty Profile, everything was pretty
simple. The only odd thing I had to do was to deploy Guvnor in exploded war form.
However, older versions of WAS were giving me trouble due to the dependency conflicts Mike
mentioned. Likewise, I suspect that the newer non-LibertyProfile versions probably suffer
similar issues, but I wasn't able to get hold of one of those to check. My thinking is
that because the Liberty Profile doesn't load many dependencies unless you
specifically configure them, such clashes are minimised.
I'll be 'unemployed' again next week, so I should probably try to spend a
little time double checking this and knocking up a little blog post. :)

Yes the 5.3 works perfectly with was 7, just a few warning, but works fine.
5.3 has problem running on was 8.
5.5 has problem running on all WAS servers.
never tried 6.
