IMHO, "WebContent" is the most ridiculous folder name when put next to "src". It's almost as bad as "My Documents" from Windows. We might as well just call it "My Web Files".
I completely agree, but please report it to eclipse WTP please ;)

note: it's always been configurable.

Just not through the UI. The Maven 2 eclipse:eclipse plugin sets it to src/main/webapp, so clearly it works by tweaking the .settings file.
