Guys,
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. I don't think deleting
threads or accounts (except in the case of duplicates) with little
warning to the user is reasonable if they are in breach of the forum
policy. I think we should change this policy to locking an account and
sending an email if they aren't following policy. Ideally this would
be automated with a button on the user account page - is this possible
Christian?

The management of this forum appears quite unprofessional. I signed
up a few days ago and posted a detailed question. I received a
follow up (thank you) and I posted some follows to that. The thread
was quite alive and I spent some time making detailed posts. Today I
find my account has been deleted and the thread I had spent time on
was also gone. Apparently this has something to do with the fact
that I signed up with my initials instead of a full name? There was
no warning for this action, now I am out the time and effort I've
spent on my thread and as a new SEAM user left with a bad taste in
my mouth.

Agreed, it seems like in this case the guy didn't mean to do anything
"bad".

Folks, of course he was told to use a real name. He not only ignored
it but decided to set the name back to an acronym again. And his
thread was NOT "alive". And no, besides locking them out without a
message we currently don't have any other viable option in the
software. A user ban feature has not been necessary so far! The real
name notice actually works well 99% of the time - which shows that
most people appreciate the rules of a community they just joined.
Ignore the exceptions...
Also, he just posted the exact same content again and this time he
actually used his real name. So nothing lost, no problem.
If you want the "programm0r" forum posters we can remove the real name
policy completely. I have been really really surprised how well it
worked though and the Seam forum content is mostly good quality -
maybe because of that. It makes a difference if your future employers
can Google your incompetence level ;)
We are evaluating a move to the upcoming new jboss.org forums, maybe
we then have more options such as in-community messages, banning, etc.

I think the policy is correct, I just think we should be more visible
in how we implement. As Christian says, hopefully the new jboss.org
forums will have more options in this area.
