SwitchYard's implementation, like the org.jbpm.bpmn2.handler.ServiceTaskHandler implementation, only logs errors by default. We do provide a way to configure a FaultAction, however it has been argued that the default behavior should be to bubble Exceptions out to the process for Boundary event handling.
