I started the Designer with a clean workspace. I imported Partssupplier from DB2 When the package diagram opened, it was in the "scrunched" state. See the attached screenshot. I'm also attaching the eclipse console info in case it sheds some light on this. (Plus there's a lot of stuff in it and you may be interested.)
