> In order to open source Designer, we need to eliminate any dependency on folders (whose contents will be modified) not already inherent to an Eclipse environment, which basically means we can only depend upon the Workspace folder and its contents. Currently, we depend upon a "config" folder that is created in our product's installation folder. Since that folder will not exist in an environment where Designer is just unzipped into the Eclipse folder like other plug-ins (or via the update manager), we should:
> 1) If a copy doesn't already exist, copy the function definitions model from its location in an installation folder to a folder under the .metadata folder during startup
> 2) Create an exporter for the function definitions model to make it available outside of Eclipse such that users can then deploy it on the server via the Console.

> I added a column to a relational view model's table and bound it to an expressions, so an alias (foo AS bar) was created. Turns out all the other columns were treated the same way. for example:
> SELECT
> AUTHOR_ID AS AUTHOR_ID, FIRSTNAME AS FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME AS LASTNAME, MIDDLEINIT AS MIDDLEINIT, CONVERT((RAND() * 10), string) AS MidThing
> FROM
> Books_Oracle_9i.BOOKS.AUTHORS
> Really only need one "AS" in the SQL.
> If I cleverly remove all the excess AS-es, they come back when I save/validate the SQL.

Attempting to use JDBC metadata importer gets Argument cannot be null
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: TEIIDDES-154
URL: https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/TEIIDDES-154
Project: Teiid Designer
Issue Type: Bug

Environment: fedora 10, Teiid Designer 090421
Reporter: Paul Nittel

After successfullky importing from a few sources, I went back to try one more. This time, however, I couldn't get the JDBC Importer to work. Here's the sad tale:
Choose File > Import
Select the JDBC metadata importer
Click Next
<wait a long time>
Get next screen, but sources combo box and Next button are disabled.
Somewhere along the way I get an exception like:
Error 2009-04-21 14:59:08.708 Unhandled event loop exception
