[JBoss JIRA] (TEIIDDES-1848) Preview fails after manual undeployment of the preview vdb
by Mark Drilling (JIRA)
Mark Drilling created TEIIDDES-1848:
---------------------------------------
Summary: Preview fails after manual undeployment of the preview vdb
Key: TEIIDDES-1848
URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/TEIIDDES-1848
Project: Teiid Designer
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Data Preview
Affects Versions: 8.2
Reporter: Mark Drilling
Assignee: Mark Drilling
Fix For: 8.2.x-prod-eds6.0
1) Previewed a model table successfully.
2) Then in the Servers view, manually un-deployed the Preview VDB for the model.
3) After un-deployment, try to re-preview the same table - it fails:
org.teiid.jdbc.TeiidSQLException: TEIID40046 VDB "PREVIEW_411a743f-4fdf-4de8-9301-643f89c3926f_TEIIDDES-1693_project" version "latest" does not exist.
The preview manager should be able the re-deploy the preview vdb on demand.

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIIDDES-1835) Add preview artifact management actions
by Mark Drilling (JIRA)
Mark Drilling commented on TEIIDDES-1835:
-----------------------------------------
1) yes, I think it should only show those that match the users workspace. Preview was intended to be hidden for the most part, so I think they should not see others preview artifacts
3) I'd vote 'no' on adding the actions to the modeling list. No need to clutter it up more, and we should just do the cleanup automatically.

> The fix for TEIIDDES-1833 probably require the code to perform the "Clear" operation anyway.

Barry LaFond commented on TEIIDDES-1835:
----------------------------------------
Some related thoughts...
1) Server can have preview artifacts belonging to multiple users
* Should Teiid tree view only those preview artifacts that match the users "workspace UID" ?
2) Could add actions to Teiid Instance actions list (add to Show Preview VDB/Data Sources actions list drop-down)
* Clear Preview Artifacts opens dialog with "VDBs" and/or "Data Sources"
3) Add actions to Modeling action list if selecting Project?
* Clear Preview Artifacts
* Refresh Preview Artifacts

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIIDDES-1846) Top Down modeling, when importing to create views, allow for default syntax to applied
by Van Halbert (JIRA)
Van Halbert created TEIIDDES-1846:
-------------------------------------
Summary: Top Down modeling, when importing to create views, allow for default syntax to applied
Key: TEIIDDES-1846
URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/TEIIDDES-1846
Project: Teiid Designer
Issue Type: Feature Request
Components: Import/Export
Reporter: Van Halbert
Assignee: Barry LaFond
When a user is starting from a top-down approach (building the views) to design their data layers, and will be performing an import to create the view layer, it would speed up the iterative development of build / deploy / test (not preview) if when the view is built (on import), it can contain valid syntax so that the model will validate. Example of syntax could be, "Select '1'" or "Select 'view not defined'" or throw an exception. This would enable the modeler to implement the views at their pace and have it deployable, rather than having to go thru every view and add syntax before its valid. This is akin to JAVA and NOOP'ing the methods.

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIIDDES-1843) could installation of Teiid Designer be made simpler via p2 metadata <references> to upstream sites?
by Max Rydahl Andersen (JIRA)
Max Rydahl Andersen commented on TEIIDDES-1843:
-----------------------------------------------
Agreeing with [~phantomjinx] - it makes no sense to add these associate sites to the sub-components sites we got today..
If they need to be exposed as single click installs we need a separate site that can aggregate all the right parts (but that is exactly what the main JBT and JBTIS sites are for).

> Current instructions for installing Teiid Designer 8.2 [1] involve multiple steps, installs, and restarts of Eclipse. This is more complex than it needs to be.
> [1] https://www.jboss.org/teiiddesigner/downloads
> Instead, the Teiid Designer update site could simply reference the upstream URLs that it needs to perform the installation, and as long as all of Teiid Designer's features & plugins properly define dependencies on the required upstream features and plugins on these update sites, installation should be able to proceed from a single URL, rather than a handful. It would allow installation via a single step, rather than several iterative steps.
> I'll attach a PR to demonstrate this.
