For what purpose? We use CPs for importing and creating connections in Teiid. If they
have a model with the info in it already, they don't need to import and can create the
teiid connection.

source is useful for verification, from a developers perspective (a person doesn't put

Ramesh - If you remove the properties of the connection from the model, then you will only
ever be able to create the data source from the original workspace. Profile name will be
meaningless in other workspaces unless some kind of profile sharing is set up between
developers. (Something I think could be nicely implemented with ModeShape).
Van - point taken, but all of these profiles require the user to provide a jar from their
filesystem. We couldn't make this work w/o some kind of manual intervention. Knowing
what I know about the DTP UI classes, we would have to probably write a lot of the UI
ourselves, the existing UI is not written to be 'driven' from existing data, it
expects to get it all from the user.

It was our choice that we duplicated these properties on the model and used for creation
of data source. You could do the same with the connection profile name *if* profile
exists. If one does not, it should pull up the DTP connection profile connection wizard
with the name filled in, before creating the data source. Unless user exported and
imported the connection profile information from the other machine.

Injecting CP info into a model was done as John said allows models to be portable and
"testable" without having local drivers and corresponding connection profiles.
One problem with Model Project Set's right now is that Connection Profile's
aren't included. BUT the CP info may or may not be in the source models.
Extracting the CP info from a model (if exists) and assisting a user in creating a CP so
they can Explore the DB seems like a worthwhile feature.

A little background on why it is the way it is. Originally we had the implementation such
that you imported from a CP (and nothing went in the model), and created datasources from
the CP. The complaint was that there were too many moving parts. What if you imported
and then picked the wrong CP when creating the datasource. Boom. We considered putting
only the CP ID in the model, but then you're limited to your workspace, as soon as you
move it, you've effectively lost your connection info.

Lots of good discussion.
For 7.4 there is a new "View Connection Info" action which a user can display to
show any existing connection profile info in a source model.
This will be deemed sufficient for now. As stated in the conversation, even though we
could "Extract" the info and assist the user to create a CP instance, there is
still the matter of the Driver JAR the user would have to locate locally. Hence no way to
really use the Model CP as a full connection transport mechanism.
Pushing to NO FUTURE as a bucket for being rejected.
