Yes, I do know that problem to this because I hit the same thing. I might be outdated here, but at one point you had to have a ROOT.war deployed to your JBoss in order for the runner to detect it is up. I didn't have a ROOT.war at one point and thus had issue. Give that a try.

Yes, it does assume a standard JBoss AS setup...
