So Martin Kouba, I've 2 observations:

1. Priority alone does not select the alternative. It still needs to be listed in the beans.xml. Perhaps I'm not clear about the selection of alternatives yet.
2. Bumping down Groovy version to 2.1.8 eliminates the NoClassDefFoundError. Almost certainly a Groovy/Gradle bug but I don't have time to follow up on that.
