Is the proposal to *not* base the docker image on the runtime image then? Or is it to base the runtime image on Temurin/CentOS 7 as well?

This new proposal would not involve the (S2I) runtime image.

It would only impact the Docker image at https://quay.io/repository/wildfly/wildfly and unblock it to provide often requested feature (esp. JDK 17 and multiarch).

I did not investigate moving the S2I Builder and Runtime image to Temurin. This would be a separate effort as our Builder image is closely tied to the OpenJDK images (we are reusing their cekit modules).
