I think that he means documentation of how to get the source code and
build it. windup-distribution is a required module now and is separat_e
from the other two._

Jess is correct. Currently the windup-distribution project has no README. Then we need
some additions to the eclipse plugin README to include how to build, need to download the
three windup projects, make sure you have the latest forge. So forth and so on.

These are 2 different things.
How to get the source code and build it is documented here:
https://github.com/windup/windup/wiki/Core-Development-Guide#prepare-your...
A README file for the distribution is a different thing. It doesn't look
like we do that for other products. I just unzipped the JBoss EAP 6.4
distribution and verified that. In most cases, won't they be finding the
distribution location from the Wiki or from the documentation? One thing
to keeps in mind is that the target audience for the Windup distribution
can vary. Would inclusion of a README that contains links to existing
documentation be sufficient? Or do you think something more?

Hi Sande,
We are referring to this:
https://github.com/windup/windup-distribution/
This project is part of the windup source code and is consumed by the
windup-eclipse-plugin as a build dependency as well.
Without this, it isn't possible to build a running copy of windup. So
this should be part of the build instructions, right?

New subject: Building and installing whole Windup (windup-distribution)
Hi all,
building the whole Windup from scratch is a bit trickier than just 2
modules.
Try to build with -Dmaven.repo.local=localRepo and you'll get into troubles.
I have tried to address this with windup-umbrella, and used git's
submodules for it.
However there are some issues with it - not just that it's not usable
for committing / pushing, but even just fetching all the submodules
doesn't work for me.
Still, that solution looks good to me at least for getting all most
recent artifact one needs for building Windup, instead of going around
in circles, figuring out what's missing now and where is its repo.
So I am reaching out to git experts to tell me what's wrong with
windup-umbrella.

I don't know what is wrong with windup umbrella. Umbrella git projects
don't really support this. Last I heard progress stopped here:
