the only reasoning for this is that sometimes you don't want to publish stuff before it's ready - this will be true as soon as we put a blog on the site (for the release announcements - making it on our own blogs felt a little bit lame :P)

fwiw, torquebox/immutant uses this workflow - I'm stealing^H^H^Hgetting inspiration there :)
