~jharting ok, let me rephrase: A non-activated @Alternative is _never_ target of a CDI event. The @Alternative must be enabled to get a CDI event. 

What I meant is that just having another 

@Alternative class B implements X 

for 

class A implements X 

will NOT disable any observer method in class A!
