The API will probably need to have two parts:  one part for working with node fragments (used by the connectors), and the other for working with nodes (on top of the cache).

Also, so that the different top-level API implementations (such as JCR 1.0, JCR 2.0, UDDI, etc.) can use the instances, the graph API should probably make maximum use of interfaces and factories.
