Randall Hauch updated DNA-506:
------------------------------
Summary: Switch to JDK 6 (aka 1.6) for baseline (was: Change compiler options to use JDK 6 (aka 1.6), but to target for Java 5 (aka 1.5))
Fix Version/s: 0.7
(was: 0.6)
Pushing to 1.0. There really isn't too much in term of new libraries in JDK 6 that we want to use (maybe a class or two), and developers can always build on JDK 6 if they want. But we'll keep the baseline at JDK 5 so that we maximum the places where JBoss DNA can be used. For performance reasons, we should probably recommend running on JRE 6, and we should probably add a Hudson nightly job that tests on JDK 6.

> Change the POM file to use the JDK 1.6 compiler for JBoss DNA, and change the Getting Started and Reference Guides to reflect this. We can change the version that we use, yet keep the target set to 1.5 (for now) to ensure that JBoss DNA can be used in applications that use J2SE 5.0.
> J2SE 5.0 (and JDK 5.0) is already in its end of life transition, and is slated for its end-of-life to be completed on October 30, 2009 [1]. Also, see the discussion on the forums regarding this change. [2]
