Tried several ideas to get this to work for Windows users:

* jgit - not flexible enough (single patch can't patch multiple files)
* git - same as jgit, except slightly more options to configure, but nothing that helps
* java-diff-utils - not flexible enough (single patch can't patch multiple files)
* google-diff-match-patch - doesn't use unidiff

The only option that hasn't been checked is to use GNU Patch for Windows (http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/patch.htm)

Due to issues with Windows users this idea has been put to the side for now. If it's ever picked back up again there's a working branch at https://github.com/stianst/gatein-portal/tree/GTNPORTAL-2671 (no Windows support)
