This satisfies my request.

$ docker run -e password=bla hawkular/hawkular

is perfectly fine.

$ docker run -d -p 22:22 hawkular/hawkular
$ ssh <dockerip:22> cp /some/odd/path/pw.json 
/some/other/longer/path/realm.json

is not.
