You should use the latest gradle version - 0.9-preview2
Checkout the gradle branch  
(https://svn.jboss.org/repos/hibernate/core/branches/gradle2)
and run 'gradle build'

There is a 'gradle idea' for generating the idea project files. I would  
assume there is
the equivalent of 'gradle eclipse'

There were some discussions around the gradle build during the last couple  
of weeks on
the mailing list.
