[hibernate-dev] Can an attribute annotated with @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn be optional?

I know that a simple ID cannot be optional. Can attributes making up a
composite ID be optional?

HHH-10929 concerns an optional attribute annotated with
@PrimaryKeyJoinColumn. Is this a valid use case?
