Oops, my bad.  This is really a documentation bug.  I'll close this.  The code is correct.  The example should change:

  <generator class="sequence">
    <param name="table">seq_table</param>
  </generator> 

should be 

  <generator class="sequence">
    <param name="sequence">seq_table</param>
  </generator>
