In response to Gopal Rathore, yes, I've seen that behavior also (query being truncated after the union keyword).

My workaround was to use raw sql with my union statement (ie. session.createSQLQuery() ), and put {myentityname} in the select part, and the call query.addEntity("myentityname", MyEntity.class).
